ABOUT THE CHEF: Hugo Uys

Hugo Uys Headshot.JPG

Hugo is a culinary astronaut. He believes in discovery. He wants his audience to go beyond the cookbook—to the ideabook. Food is an experience: it’s haphazard, it’s fun. Sometimes it’s all about a dancing chicken and a glass of wine.

Hugo Uys is a South African born entrepreneur and chef specializing in South African cuisine. He’s been featured in The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times, and served both fashionistas, celebrities and financiers at his pioneering West Village restaurant of 30 years: Paris Commune. He’s cooked at the international thoroughbred Breeder’s Cup in California, and was part of Saveur Magazine’s Summer and Winter holiday cookouts in New York City, alongside other top chefs in the industry. Hugo’s also partnered with Wines of South Africa on their cross-country promotional tour named From BBQ to Braai, selling out shows across America at events highlighting South African flavors and techniques.
